Could Muscle Imbalances be Slowing Down Your Club Head Speed?
Muscle imbalances stop you from moving optimally and generating the maximal amount of force you’re capable of. When you have too much tension in some areas and limited strength in others, muscle imbalances are the outcome.
When I spoke with Damon Goddard, the golf performance trainer for Spieth and Zalatoris he said,” I do very little power training with my pro golfers. I focus on helping my players correct muscle imbalances that are slowing their clubhead speed down.”
If a player heads into the gym and starts to randomly stretch and strengthen different muscle groups without using this concept they can easily throw themselves farther out of balance impacting their game in a negative way. So, the best way for players to understand themselves is to undergo an assessment like the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) screen. With a TPI assessment, a player will know which muscles to stretch and which muscles to strengthen so their workouts will help give the player the best chance of generating more force in their golf swing.
If you’d like to experience the TPI evaluation contact Gerry Halverson, TPC Colorado’s Fitness Director at gerryhalverson@tpccolorado.com to set up an appointment. The evaluation is currently free of charge.
